In one of the recent videos uploaded to LE SSERAFIM’s YouTube channel, two of the foreign members, Sakura and Kazuha, talk about their experience learning Korean.

Sakura, a former member of IZ*ONE, was also a Japanese idol who was a part of both J-Pop groups HKT48 and AKB48.

She came to Korea to participate in Mnet‘s survival show Produce 48, where she finished in 2nd place, thus debuting in Korea as a part of IZ*ONE.

Kazuha was also born in Japan, although she has lived all over the world in order to attend different ballet academies. Before becoming a K-Pop trainee, she was attending the prestigious Dutch National Ballet Academy in the Netherlands.

Given that for both Sakura and Kazuha, Korean was certainly not their first language, the staff asked them both what the first word they learned in Korean was.

Kazuha first answered practically, saying that it was “head.”

And she explained to her confused members that her “Korean lessons started with learning the words for our body parts.”

Which, as Sakura pointed out, is helpful for learning choreography.

Garam suggested that Kazuha might have also learned “super tired.” Which only makes sense given how exhausting being an idol trainee is.

So Kazuha also offered that she quickly learned “about to pass out” too.

And Kazuha also shared that since, like many Korean language learners, she learned some Korean from watching K-Dramas, she quickly picked up a few phrases. Like “Right, right.”

Or “For real!” Which she learned since she “wanted to copy those” expressions.

And while Sakura doesn’t exactly remember the first words she learned, she assumes that they had to do with idol life.

| LE SSERAFIM/YouTube

So she probably first learned phrases like “I love you.”

| LE SSERAFIM/YouTube

“I’ll do my best!”

| LE SSERAFIM/YouTube

Or the ever-important “Please look forward to it.”

| LE SSERAFIM/YouTube

Since it was most important for her to learn “the things [she’d] say to the fans.”

| LE SSERAFIM/YouTube

But, as Yunjin points out, both Sakura and Kazuha have become incredibly good at Korean.
