The final member lineup created by the competition show My Teenage Girl was released just a couple of days ago, along with their group’s name, CLASSy.
The group consists of seven members — Hyungseo, Chaewon, Hyeju, Riwon, Jimin, Boeun, and Seonyou — whose birth years range from 2001 to 2008 (making their ages between 13 and 20).
The maknae, Seonyou, was born on March 20, 2008; the second-youngest, Boeun, was born on February 11, 2008; and the third-youngest, Jimin, was born on November 25, 2007. That means the group is debuting with two fourteen-year-olds and one thirteen-year-old, and some K-Pop fans are expressing their discomfort with this.
My Teenage Girl had already received mixed reviews from viewers due to the fact that over a half-dozen of its contestants were 12 or younger.
And now that the official line-up for CLASSy has been announced, the attention has turned to the members who will likely debut not too far in the future. A recent post on Reddit sparked a discussion about the youngest member ages, and the ensuing conversation was pretty telling about how people feel.

Many commentors agreed with the original poster’s opinions that K-Pop idols are debuting at too-young ages more often these days, and that something should be changed to prevent damage to the impressionable young trainees.
Others mentioned how having such a drastic age difference between the members could be difficult in and of itself.
Some brought up the mental issues that might arise from debuting at such a young age, considering some adults have trouble dealing with the fame and infamy of being a K-Pop idol.
On the other side of the spectrum, some commentors mentioned that it’s really not all that uncommon for young teenagers to debut as a K-Pop idol.
Finally, some commentors tried to take a more positive spin on the situation.
