After more than a year and a half away, Red Velvet has returned with their new song “Queendom” and the MV is full of easter eggs (as to be expected from these concept queens).
With all those stunning visuals and witchy vibes, there’s so much to watch! Here are 6+ things you might’ve missed in Red Velvet’s “Queendom” MV:
1. Job titles
To welcome ReVeluvs into the world of this MV, the video introduces the girls with their own title cards featuring their name and job at their fictional company. This goes by so fast that many fans may have missed each members jobs so here are those jobs in the order they appear:
Seulgi: Lost & Found Mail Carrier
Wendy: Postmistress
Joy: Delivery Rider
Irene: Distribution Director
Yeri: Trainee Witch
2. Kiki’s Delivery Service
With Joy acting as a delivery rider, you might initially notice her vehicle of choice as a motorcycle.
If you look behind her, you’ll notice a broomstick which is a reference to the classic Hayao Miyazaki film Kiki’s Delivery Service.
3. Red Velvet MV History On Display
On the table in front of Irene, there are some unique props that ReVeluvs will immediately recognize from past Red Velvet MVs. These include:
The Crossbow from “Peek-A-Boo”
The Pineapple from “Red Flavor”
The Tennis Racket from “Russian Roulette”
These are only a few of the visible props from past MVs.
4. Alice In Wonderland
In the second part of the video, the girls are seen in a colorful setting enjoying tea and playing croquet.
This is a reference to the classic Lewis Carroll tale, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland, which has been adapted to film many times and is more commonly known as Alice In Wonderland.
The songs lyrics reference “Wonderland” and at one point Yeri can be seen playing croquet with a pink flamingo similar to Alice in the story.
5. Queens Mystic General Store
As a lead up to this comeback and to celebrate the girls’ 7th anniversary, Red Velvet did a special project which was called Queen’s Archive or Queens Mystic General Store.
Multiple references to the project can be seen including Irene’s heterochromia similar to the cat featured throughout the project.
Another reference to the cat is Yeri’s footsteps in the hallway, which take on a cat like pawprint shape.
6. Harry Potter
What is a good magic MV without a reference to the beloved wizarding story of Harry Potter?
In the MV, Yeri is referred to as a trainee witch and her energy is similar to that of Hermione Granger. At one point she can be seen levitating the afformentiond Red Velvet MV items similar to Hermione’s use of the “Wingardium Leviosa” spell.
