The world-famous artist has come full circle!
In a promotional video for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Jackson Wang told the story of the Olympics over the past century.
The GOT7 member is known for his success as a K-pop idol, his solo hip-hop career, and his work in the fashion world.
But before all that, Jackson was a promising young fencer.
Both of Jackson’s parents were athletes, so Jackson was exposed to sports and competition from a young age.
He fell in love with fencing and by the time he was 16, Jackson was competing on an Olympic level.
He traveled the world to compete in tournaments and aimed to compete at the Olympics.
However, Jackson decided take a different route and pursue his dream of becoming a performer.
He even turned down a sports scholarship from Stanford University while preparing for the 2012 London Olympics to instead move to South Korea and chase his dream.
Some criticized his decision, and even Jackson’s parents were unsure at the time. But the artist was persistent in not having regrets.
The Olympics is this year. There was an article. ‘Why would the world’s 11th ranking fencer go to Korea to be an idol?’ I have members that are like family to me. I have IGOT7. I’m happier doing this.
